Struggling to find the proper words to describe this Heterotopia tour, I can feel many different feelings and colors and energies coming and going. First of all I feel grateful for being able to be there and meet all those beautiful people with these qualities and differences. Living together with other people wasn't something new for me, but as an adult, it was! Through community living I experienced the so called “unity” everyone talks about, but it’s hard to make it real. My personal goal and the main reason why I was so interested in going to Serra Guarneri was to interact with people different or similar to me, work with them, play with them, share with them, possibly coming into conflict with them and learn ways to really overcome it without fear and negative thoughts and feelings behind.
And it was achieved! I found myself becoming a child again (that was a really healing procedure) and communicating with so many different ways with some of them! Another goal was, as I said, to experience the unity with all the earthling beings, not only human beings, which is an opportunity given to me every time I go in the nature. I have the chance to see and realize that I belong, that I'm just a part of the whole. And every little move of us affects another. What really upset me though, is a topic that was opened up but came to a bitter end. I feel really glad and proud that a part of the program included the questions “where our food comes from?” and “what exactly do we cause by consuming meat and dairy products?”. But I also felt completely unable to pass the message of non -speciesism, and disappointed by myself because of the simple fact that many of the people of the group seemed not to know what speciesism is (and it’s completely accepted), nevertheless they tried to awaken us about how our eating habits affect the environment, the creatures and us. I am pretty sure that each one of the facilitators and many of the people of this group, are open to knowledge and really care about sustainability (which is the reason of the tours I guess) and ways to live so that next generations and earth planet don't suffer by our choices!
Last day before leaving Sierra Guarneri, Franca's boyfriend approached me saying the phrase “love for animals” to me. I just laughed, and he went away. 5 minutes later I learned from Franca that he is fighting about animal's rights, too. So, that guy gave me the courage to refer to speciesism, again, by passing some research documentaries -starting from the most important ones - to all of you who really care about your ecological footprint and let them speak for me!
